PICKNEYVILLE, IL (KFVS) - Two people were injured after their car flipped over and caught fire Sunday at the intersection of Route 13 and Route 154 in Pinckneyville.

Around 5 p.m. Sunday a Jeep Wrangler was traveling west on Route 154 and was almost hit head on by a Suzuki traveling south on Route 13, according to the Pinckneyville Police Department.

Police say the Suzuki did not stop at the stop sign and crashed into the Wrangler.

The Suzuki turned over and caught fire. The driver and passenger of the Suzuki had to be cut out of the vehicle. They were flown to St. Louis University Hospital.

The driver of the Suzuki is from Baton Rouge, LA and the passenger is from Rockville, MO.  Their names are not being released pending notification of family.

The Wrangler had four people in it: Scott Carney, Dana Carney, Greg Hale and Elizabeth Hale.  All four went to the local hospital to get checked for injuries.

Traffic was tied up for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene. Everything is open again Monday morning.
