Summer enrollment up 9.6 percent at John A. Logan College

CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) – Summer enrollment numbers continue to rise at John A. Logan College.

Terry Crain, Dean for Student Services at the college, announced Monday that enrollment for the summer term is up 9.6 percent over last summer.  That is more than 300 students from last summer.

More than 1,600 of those 3,600 students are enrolled in at least one online class.

College officials say this is the institution's highest summer enrollment ever.

They credit the larger numbers in part to the variety of online classes and because of cheaper tuition cost for local students that come home for the summer from four-year colleges.

College officials expected to see an increase in enrollment two and three years ago when industrial giants like Maytag and Technicolor Universal Media Services closed their doors, and more recently, Circuit City.

They expect the opening the new communications building next year will only increase the numbers.
