GOREVILLE, IL (KFVS) - A Goreville couple has been sentenced for their role in an armed robbery.
According to Johnson County State's Attorney Tricia Shelton, 22-year-old Alex Knight walked inside the Cheers gas station in Goreville last December, wearing a mask, carrying what looked like a gun, and demanded cash.
Investigators say the cashier at the service station was actually Knight's girlfriend, 22-year-old Brittany Griebe.
Police say the two worked together to concoct the scheme.
Griebe admits she didn't deposit cash the night before so there would be more money in the drawer.
Because Griebe was in on it, neither can be charged with armed robbery.
Knight pleaded guilty to a burglary charge. He was sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Griebe pleaded guilty to charges of theft and disorderly conduct. She was sentenced to two years on probation and to do 75 hours of community service.
