ENERGY, IL (KFVS) - The classroom moved outside for some Heartland students Thursday.
Instead of text books, students at Unity Christian School heard lessons from veterans, along with city and county leaders at Bruce Park in Energy.
It's part to the Unity Christian's National Day of Prayer celebration.
Coordinator Sharon Lehner says it's important students understand the freedoms many fought for such as prayer.
"We're not ashamed and we're not afraid to stand for what we believe in and not afraid to stand up and say we recognize that it's important as a country we come together and pray on the National Day of Prayer," Lehner said.
Students heard from the mayors of Energy and Herrin along with Energy's Police Chief and Williamson County Commissioner Brent Gentry.
