YourTurn - 4/19/10

Watch for YourTurn normally scheduled to air at the end of Heartland News at Noon on Mondays and Fridays, at the end of Heartland News at 10:00 on Saturday nights, and following The Breakfast Show on Sunday mornings.

Sara McClain from Oran, Missouri:
"There should be harsher laws when it comes to animal cruelty. It makes me sick to hear about (cruelty)…animals have rights…the law needs to put a stop to it."
Don Pickard from Marble Hill, Missouri:
"I have watched Mike Smythe's ViewPoints on underage drinking. A large part of the blame for the increase is the responsibility of the State. In 2003, the legislature began to dismantle the Division of Alcohol and Tobacco, formally Liquor Control. The budget was cut over 30% causing the closing of four of the division's six offices. Other cuts were made along the way…I retired from the division a year ago and constantly receive calls complaining about selling liquor to minors…when the complaints are passed along to the division, I was told they have neither the manpower or lack permission to follow up. It is a shame to see such an effective agency (slowly) dissolve.
Dennis Crutchfield from Matthews, Missouri:
"I notice a lot of governments have money problems. Have they ever thought about writing tickets to drivers for not having their lights on in a rain storm? It is against the law. I counted 36 drivers without their lights on during a storm on Highway 60 between Dexter and Sikeston."

Charlotte Gilmore from Mississippi County, Missouri:
"The county school district has it backwards. They are cutting four teachers and may have to cut back on extra-curricular activities. They should cut the ‘extra' and not the basic education that (children) need to get them started through the maze of life…keep the teachers and cut the ‘extra'."
