JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KFVS) - A firefighter from Ste. Genevieve was one of three honored at a ceremony Wednesday in the Missouri Capitol Rotunda for dying in the line of duty in 2009.

David Grass Jr., 34, died July 8, 2009 from an apparent brain injury while participating in a physical fitness training program at the Ste. Genevieve fire house, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Department of Public Safety Director John Britt took part in the ceremony.  He says these firefighters represented the very best of Missouri's fire service.

Also honored at the event was Lt. William "Roger" Vorwark, 49, of Odessa Fire and Rescue Protection District and Assist.  Chief Dale E. Haddix, 70, of Schell City Fire Department.
