CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - A person apparently got a phone call and told they were the winner of a cash prize and new vehicle. The person offering the prize allegedly told the victim they would have to make a cash payment before getting anything.
The victim didn't believe the person and called police.
The Carbondale Police Department released a press release saying suspects in crimes such as these will often try to convince victims there is a great sense of urgency and that immediate action is absolutely necessary. The release went on to say people should always take the time to think about these requests. If a suspicious caller claims to be with a business or government agency, get that business' number in a phone book or online and call the company for verification.
