New Details on Deadly Fire

By CJ Cassidy

(Cape Girardeau, MO)--A makeshift memorial stands in front of the house where a Southeast Missouri student died in a fire early Tuesday. Some of the students who lived here came back to the house today.. they say they're still in shock over 23 year old  Katrina Krumrie's death.

Insurance adjustors were also at the scene today. They tell us it will take a few days before they figure out just how much was lost.

The fire is being blamed on a faulty extension cord. Fire investigators say however, the only smoke detector in the house was found in the basement apartment, and not upstairs where the fire actually started.

Visitation for Katrina Krumrie will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 PM at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, Missouri.

The funeral will take place Friday morning at 10 AM. Family members tell us both ceremonies will be open to the public.

A new species of tick is spreading in the U.S. and has now been found in seven states, including a part of Arkansas. The long-horned tick is an arthropod native to Asia, but if the bug spreads to other parts of the Heartland it could cause trouble for cattle farmers.
