Bad Timing With Train Derailments

After several train derailments in the Heartland, a lot of folks living near railroad tracks are wondering what's causing the increase of accidents.

Some people say they're just more aware of them now, while others say it's a coincidence. Regardless of the reason, investigations into all the derailments are still ongoing, so officials don't have an answer for the causes.

According to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, in 2002, there were 51 train derailments, but already in the first two months of this year, 16 trains have left the tracks. That's nearly one third of the derailments that happened in the previous year.
