SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Two men died in plane crash south of Blodgett, Missouri.

Robbie Rollins and Paul Fisher, both of the Cape Girardeau area, were killed Saturday after the plane crashed.

Investigators say it looks like a wing clipped a structure near the grass air strip.  Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter says it appears the plane was about to take off.  "There's a shed that sits on the far side of the airfield and for some reason they did clip the shed and then somersaulted and landed and burst into flames." says Sheriff Walter.

Sheriff Walter says a Missouri Highway patrolman lives nearby and tried to save one of the men.

According to the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport air traffic control tower, the plane took off from the Cape Girardeau airport earlier Saturday.

Both Rollins and Fisher were pilots who often flew together, according to Bruce Loy, Cape Girardeau Regional Airport manager.  "Typically the two would take off Saturday.  Maybe fly down to the Dexter airport and have breakfast and visit other air strips including the one today where the accident occurred."

The plane involved in the accident, owned by Paul Fisher, is a Piper Super Cub.  Fisher owned several aircraft and maintained a hanger at the Cape Girardeau airport.

Rollins is the owner of Delta Express Inc. trucking company located in Scott City, Missouri.

The FAA and NTSB have been called in to investigate.

It could be several months before the NTSB releases more information about the cause of crash.
