As folks across the Heartland celebrate Super Bowl Sunday, one Southern Illinois church holds a different type of 'Souper' Bowl. Members of the Marion United Methodist Church organized a pre-game luncheon to help raise money for the Marion Ministerial Alliance. Players in the 'Souper' Bowl had a meal of soup, salad, and dessert, and gave a donation to the local soup kitchen and food pantry. Since many Heartland shelters and other charities were extra busy because of the recent bitterly cold weather, organizers of the event say the proceeds will be very well received. The Marion United Methodist church collected over one thousand dollars in the 'Souper' Bowl, which is part of a national effort for churches to raise money for local charities.
