Last year's run to the Sweet Sixteen by the Saluki Men's Basketball Team, projected bright images of SIU across the Heartland. Not all past images of SIU have been quite so positive. With rioting incidents and a party school reputation sometimes tagged to the school, it's difficult to always overcome historical notoriety. Now, with a possible strike just days away, yet another image...the image of professors walking the picket lines, could be added to the collection. However, at a SIU preview day for high school students, most of the teens and their parents didn't seem too worried about the strike or it's potential impact on the school. Instead, they credited Southern Illinois University for other areas of strength and a positive reputation, as their reason for choosing the school.
