SIU strike still possible.

(Carbondale, IL)--With less than two weeks from the strike deadline at SIU, both the faculty and administration make preparations for the looming February 3rd date.

On Thursday, the faculty union filed a petition to give notice they'll stop collective bargaining and begin the strike in ten days, unless a compromise is reached. They're still wanting six issues to be addressed in negotiations, but time is running out.

The administration also held a press conference Thursday afternoon, where Chancellor Walter Wendler discussed several key concerns for the university and students, if the faculty union does strike.

Both the faculty and administration agree they want to avoid a strike if possible, and say an agreement could be reached before the deadline, but both also point out negotiation talks have been slow going.
