One of the best things about Heartland summers: sweet corn season. While I trust you enjoy home-grown sweet corn, some of you may not always like eating corn right off the cob. Or, maybe you want to use this produce in your recipes. Either way, that's where Pampered Chef's new Kernel Cutter comes in.

Julie Rush loves fresh sweet corn. She's equally anxious to see if this works.  After you shuck and rinse that corn, hold the cob up vertically in one hand, the kernel cutter in the other.  Then, zip down the cob and we should have kernels ready to go.

"Wow! Impressive. I almost want to use it in a bowl. Let's try it," says Julie.

This Kernel Cutter worked so well on the cutting board, we ended up making a mess. Once Julie and I cut the cobs into the bowl and slow things down a bit, we're both impressed with the results.

"Nice!" says Julie.

That's it, right?  Another Does it Work test in the can?  Oh no.  Before we shell out a mere seven or eight bucks on this, is it really all that better than the knife all of us have in our kitchen?  Julie thinks so.

"The only thing is with the knife, I tend to cut into the cob itself.  I notice with this kernel cutter, I'm getting just the corn.  That's nice," she says.

Before I serve up an excellent grade, any cook wants to know how well a gadget cleans.  A few of the kernels are gathering at the protected blade, but they easily flick off and now it's time to rinse.

"Oh, this is nice," says Julie.

I don't think I can find a thing wrong with it..

"This is great.  It really is.  I'm not a big corn on the cob eater because I don't like it in my teeth, so I would keep this at the table and scrape it off of my plate.  The kids will still go with the cob, but I think for people with braces or dentures, this would be great," she says.

Won't this make the canning process faster, too?  Pampered Chef pampered us, I do believe.

"I'm impressed," says Julie.

Me, too. The protected blade, the ease of use, and the small price tag all equal above average marks. Pampered Chef's Kernel Cutter most certainly makes the cut with an A+ on this Does it Work test.  To find a local Pampered Chef dealer near you, check out the Pampered Chef website www.pamperedchef.com
