Franklin County, IL -- (KFVS) A wreck between several trucks on I-57 shuts down both the northbound and soundbound lanes of the interstate.

The wreck happened around the 74 mile marker on the interstate.

Illinois state police tell Heartland News the wreck happened near a construction zone.

The ISP says a pick-up truck and a semi were stopped just past the construction zone.

Investigators say a semi driver didn't notice the other trucks were stopped but when he did, he slammed on his brakes.

Police say when the driver slammed on his brakes, the steel he was carrying crashed into the cab killing him.  His truck kept going and slammed into the semi that was stopped, causing that semi to catch on fire.

We have a crew on the scene and we'll update you as we get more information.
