SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - A Sikeston woman is dead after she was shot early Saturday morning and her boyfriend faces murder charges.

Nikia Latrice Williams, 28, died from a single gunshot wound in her upper torso, according to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

Brandon Antwuan Lane, 29, of Sikeston faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.

Officers responded to a call of a gunshot about 1 a.m. Saturday to 902B Montgomery Street.

Officers found a Lane sitting on the couch with a Williams slumped over with blood on her shirt.  A handgun was found on the floor near the couple.

Williams was taken to Missouri Delta Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead by New Madrid County Coroner Ralph Barnwell.

Police believe a domestic disturbance between the couple led to the shooting.

There were three small children in the home at the time.  They've been removed from the home. One of them is staying with relatives.  Two are in protective custody with children's services. As of early Saturday morning, police weren't sure if all the children belonged to the woman who was killed.

An autopsy is expected to be performed Monday.

Lane is being held in the New Madrid County Jail with no bond.
