IL fire department grants

Springfield, IL (KFVS)- Illinois State Fire Marshal David Foreman announced that almost $500,000 in grants is available to fire departments across the state.

The money can be used to purchase small equipment, like firefighting tools and extrication equipment and protective clothing that will help the departments boost their emergency response capabilities.

The money cannot be used to buy larger items like fire trucks and other department vehicles.

The Small Equipment Grant Program was started in October 2006.

Fire departments maintained by a local unit of government to provide fire protection are elgible for the program.
