Portageville wins Class 2 state title

COLUMBIA, MO (KFVS) - Portageville boys won the Class 2 state title in basketball Friday afternoon.
Byron Wright and Fred Treadwell scored 14 points each as Portageville jumped to a big early lead and held on to beat Harrisburg 60-55 Friday in the Missouri Class 2 boys state championship game.
It was the fifth state title for the Bulldogs (24-5). Wright scored 11 of his 14 points in the first quarter, and Portageville led by as much as 18 points in the second quarter.
Harrisburg (27-5), the 2008 state champion, rallied and cut the lead to one point with just over a minute to play, but could never draw even.
Max Manning led Harrisburg with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Harrisburg has reached the Class 2 Final Four in each of the past four seasons.
Portageville forced 22 turnovers and won despite shooting just 32% from the field.
This is Portageville's first state title since 1994.
