Police search for Farmington man in connection with shooting death

By Heartland News

FARMINGTON, MO (KFVS) - Police look for a man in connection with the shooting death of a Belleville man.

Michael Johnson, 23, of Farmington is wanted by St. Francois County sheriff's deputies in the shooting death of a 61-year-old Gary Mayer.

Investigators say Mayer was killed at a home near Gumbo. Mayer had gone to the home to help his daughter move her belongings out of the house.

A deputy had been called to the scene because the man's daughter had reported domestic problems.  When the deputy arrived, he found a body on the living room floor.  Mayer had been shot to death.

Investigators say Johnson is 6'2", 170 pounds with green eyes and short brown hair.  He may be driving a black Jeep Wrangler

Investigators are calling Johnson "a person of interest" who they want to question.

Deputies believe Johnson is armed and dangerous, so please call police if you think you've seen him.

While the search continues in the Farmington area, police say Johnson also has relatives at Lake of the Ozarks and in Washington County.
