Poker plays its way into the Heartland
By: Ryan Tate
CARUTHERSVILLE, MO -- Casino Aztar executives in Caruthersville noticed a trend among gamblers, they like to watch poker on television. They also like to play the game, which is why the casino leaders are creating a poker room. "Poker is really hot right now, new players along with old players, its very popular right now," Director of Casino Operations Lyle Randolph said.
There will be four tables to start off with. Directors at Harrah's Metropolis say they looked into bringing a poker room back to the casino, but say it doesn't make financial sense under Illinois laws.
The City of Caruthersville will also benefit from the new poker room. According to casino executives, they pay out more than 1.3 million dollars a year in taxes to Caruthersville. Thousands of extra tax dollars will go the town, which uses the money for capital improvements.
The poker room will open to the public in late August.
