FRANKFORT, KY. (KFVS/AP) - A McCraken County metal plating business has been given official notice to clean up its site after a government inspector found 20 drums of hazardous chemicals.
The Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection says that owner Richard O'Hair has the option of cleaning up the chemicals, some that had leaked into the ground, or the state will charge to do it for him.
The drums included copper cyanide, sodium cyanide and nitric acid in seven storage units found last week.
The state fire marshal's office has inventoried the materials and an environmental contractor separated the non-compatibles for safety reasons.
I-Brite reportedly enrolled its a hazardous waste registration with the state of Kentucky in 2006, but later withdrew its listing.
