MOUNT VERNON, ILL (KFVS) - School leaders at Mt. Vernon high school are considering installing surveillance cameras on school buses.
"If they're doing things they should not be doing, then someone needs to know about it," says Dawn Vowell of Mt. Vernon.
She's just one of a number of parents in the Mt. Vernon area who feel strongly about the school district's decision to place surveillance cameras on the high school buses.
"No, I don't think it's an invasion of their privacy. It's about controlling kids. And I don't see that as an invasion at all," says Brian Lee of Mt. Vernon.
Still some of the students at the high school are skeptical about the cameras being on the buses.
"I don't think they'll really help. If it happens, it will happen. It will help find the culprits but that's about all it will do. It won't deter anything," says Byrce Vowell of Mt. Vernon.
School leaders have not said what prompted them to consider the cameras on the buses. But, they are planning on deciding whether or not to move forward with the security measure during their scheduled meeting on November 16th.
The school district has already security cameras on campus.
