(KFVS) - The Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions warns folks looking to make fast cash by investing of some of the top scams.

The DFI issued its annual list of Top 10 Investor Traps.

This year's list includes natural resources investments, Ponzi schemes, leveraged exchange-traded funds (ETFs), real estate investment schemes, private placement offerings, short-term commercial promissory notes, life settlements, gold bullion and currency scams, entertainment investments, and speculative inventions and new products as the greatest potential threats to Kentucky investors.

Those traps have been found in Kentucky and the across the United States.  Many of the scams promise high returns to cash-strapped investors but provide little, if any, disclosure of risks, according to DFI.

Call the DFI Securities Division at 800-223-2579 to verify a product and seller's registration and complaint history.
