Stephanie Byars as worn many hats since she started working at Heartland News in 2002. She's produced the Heartland News at Noon and Five newscasts, served as Health Reporter and Breakfast Show Reporter, and is now the Executive Producer of the Breakfast Show. She loves the news business so much she wanted to try her hand at all she could! In her current and favorite role, Stephanie oversees the number one rated, Emmy Award winning Breakfast Show.
A Heartland girl born and raised, Stephanie lived in Princeton, Grand Rivers, Ledbetter, Paducah, and Murray in Western Kentucky then jumped across the river to graduate from Southeast Missouri State University. She has made Cape her home, and that background helps her understand what matters to people of the Heartland, and she works every day to bring that to them.
She's received numerous awards at KFVS12. Those include: Illinois Broadcasters' Association Silver Dome Awards and Missouri Broadcasters' Association awards for best newscast as well as a Missouri Broadcast Association award for Investigative Reporting.
Stephanie is also the creator and Race Director for the annual 5K-FVS Run/Walk event. It's Stephanie's love of running and event planning along with her desire to make a real impact for a local organization, that led to the development of the race. In its first 4 years, the 5K-FVS raised nearly $40,000 dollars for local United Way chapters. This Missouri Broadcaster Association award winning station event has grown into one of the largest 5K race's in the Heartland, bringing hundreds of runners and spectators to downtown Cape Girardeau for a run with the Heartland News team.
Stephanie has worked with many local organizations including the United Way of Southeast Missouri, Old Town Cape, Junior Achievement, Lutheran Family and Children's Services, the American Cancer Society, and the American Heart Association. Her favorite way to spend time though is with her sons, Gavin and Keaton, and stepdaughter, Brittany, who keep her busy with school, sports, and anything else they can get into!
