Kathy Sweeney

Kathy Sweeney anchors Heartland News at 5 and 6. Kathy has been at KFVS12 since June of 1994, when she started as a reporter in our Southern Illinois Newsroom. Since then, she has covered some of the region’s biggest stories, winning a Missouri Broadcasters' Award in both 1998 and 1999 for her investigative reporting. In January of 2001, Kathy crossed the river to become the anchor of Heartland News on Saturday and Sunday. Then in February of 2003, she made the tough decision to leave her on-air position to become the Assistant News Director. In that role, Kathy oversaw day to day news coverage in the 50 counties covered by Heartland News. Now, Kathy wears two hats, serving as both Assistant News Director and co-anchor of Heartland News at 5 and 6.

Kathy’s had the unique chance to live in Illinois, Missouri, and Kentucky during her time at Heartland News. She currently splits her time between Mayfield, KY and Cape Girardeau, MO. Her daughter, Madeline Siefert, attends Cape Middle School and swims with the Gator Swim Team in Cape.

Kathy spends a lot of time poolside, cheering Madeline.  She is also the proud step-mom of Travis and Taylor Meadows of Benton, Kentucky. When she’s not working, Kathy enjoys running, reading, and watching NFL football. Her husband Barry Meadows, a Kentucky State Trooper, has also encouraged a love of the Kentucky Wildcats, but she won’t pick them over the SIU Salukis!  E-Mail Kathy
