Carbondale, IL -- It may look like your typical backyard weed, but for one SIU plant biologist it's much more.
We're talking about parasitic plants and as you can imagine some of these bizarre plants aren't that pretty, but plant biologist Dan Nickrent thinks otherwise, he's created a website that shows thousands of these unique plants.
You can find parasitic plants everywhere, even in the Heartland, but you won't have to travel too far to get parasitic plant DNA, Nickrent stores thousands of it in a SIU biology lab. All this plant DNA makes SIU the only university with such an archive.
