POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) – A male babysitter is accused in connection with the death of a four-year-old child.

Police say autopsy results show that four-year-old Zoey Slager died on Friday from blunt force trauma to the head. Zoey just turned four in January.

Prosecutors in the case have charged Jeremy McIntosh with injury to a child resulting in death.

Butler County Prosecutor Kevin Barber says the charge can carry the same penalty as murder.

In a press release, Chief Whiteley says Jeremy McIntosh was babysitting  the neighbor girl on Feb. 17 until 4 p.m. Feb. 18.  When the mother of the child, Jennifer Thrower, called McIntosh to tell him  that she was on her way home, McIntosh said he would bring the little girl to her home.  Thrower came home and checked on the four-year-old and could not wake her.  Thrower then called 911.

When police arrived at the child's home, they found the her unresponsive with no pulse.  The little girl was taken to North Campus Emergency Room where she was pronounced dead.

According to Poplar Bluff Police Chief Danny Whiteley, Jeremy McIntosh told police he hit the child a number of times because she was not minding him and continued to cry wanting her mom and dad.

During the investigation police say the child had severe bruising on head and body.

Jeremy McIntosh is being held on a $1 million bond.

Police state the investigation is continuing at this time.
