7 injured in rollover crash on I-55

NEW MADRID COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Seven people from Wyoming, Michigan are injured in a rollover crash on Interstate 55 in New Madrid County.

Sgt. Dale Moreland with the Missouri State Highway Patrol says two children were seriously injured.

Moreland says the driver, 29-year-old Juvenal Rizo, was driving an SUV too fast when he lost control, went off median, overcorrected, crossed the center line and rolled four times.

A deputy on scene says the 2001 Lincoln Navigator slid another 60-80 feet on its top before it stopped.

Two people were partially ejected. 

It happened at the 62 mile marker northbound on I-55 about 11:50 a.m.

Three-year-old Erick Gonzales was airlifted to St. Francis Medical Center with a serious head injury.

Avangelina Rizo, 16, was airlifted to Memphis with a serious foot injury.  She was not wearing a seatbelt.

Juan S. Rizo, 8, Juvenal J. Rizo, 10, and Minerva Rizo, 28, sustained moderate injuries.  They were take to St. Francis Medical Center.

Maura Gonzales, 22, and Juvenal Rizo, 29, sustained minor injuries.  They were taken to St. Francis Medical Center.

Everyone was wearing a seatbelt except for Avangelina Rizo, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Part of I-55 was shut down for about 40 minutes, but is now back open.
