EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KFVS) - A federal judge has ordered hearings for inmates who are sent or already held at Tamms Correctional Center.
U.S. District Judge G. Patrick Murphy says that isolation at the prison in Alexander County can lead to mental illness. He also says the incarceration leaves lasting psychological damage and emotional harm.
The Judge says the inmates deserve a chance to challenge being sent behind bars there.
Officials with the IL Department of Corrections have not replied to the judge's comments.
