High winds destroyed this trailer and injured a man inside
DONIPHAN, MO (KFVS) - At least one person has been hurt as a powerful thunderstorm tore through an area just east of Doniphan.
Ripley County Sheriff Ron Barnett believes a small tornado is responsible although this has not been confirmed yet by the National Weather Service.
Sheriff Barnett tells Heartland News it all happened around 11:30 along Highway 142. The winds ripped the roof off of one business, Top Quality Rental, and scattered the equipment inside all over the property.
The same winds also flipped a camping trailer and destroyed at least one barn.
A man living in that camping trailer was injured. The sheriff says he was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The National Weather Service also reports two barns and some outbuildings were damaged near Doniphan.
The storm also knocked out power to the area for a short time.
Near Caruthersville this storm also caused some damage.
According to the National Weather Service a home three miles south of Caruthersville was partially damaged. The weather service also reports two sheds and some irrigation equipment were blown over.
Lightning also struck a 200 gallon propane tank according to the weather service near County Roads 363 and 366.
