CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A gaming license is back on the table in Missouri and a Cape Girardeau development company is interested.
Back in July of 2008, we showed you plans developed by Dream Big LLC to create an entertainment, residential, and commercial project along Cape's riverfront, anchored by a casino.
The men behind that effort now have the chance to revive it, after Pinnacle Entertainment announced it will close the President Casino and surrender the gaming license for it.
"The application for a gaming license is pretty complicated," said David Knight, "So, we'll have some reviewing to do and also actually some strategy to see what's happened since we were last actively involved in the license."
Knight says he and partner Jim Riley still firmly believe Cape Girardeau is the perfect location for a riverfront casino.
"Downtown Cape, by the Missouri Gaming Commission's own study, is the best location for a new casino," Knight said. "If you compare the three out-state casinos currently in operation, Cape Girardeau would beat their gross revenues if you combined them together."
A spokeswoman for the Missouri Gaming Commission says commission members will begin talking about when that license will be available at their next meeting on March 24.
