ST. LOUIS, MO (KFVS) - A Heartland doctor will have to pay the United States $820,000 for false claims submitted to Medicare, Missouri Medicaid, and Tricare.

The U.S. reached a civil settlement with Dr. Abdul Naushad, 46, of Town and Country, MO and his wife Wajiha Naushad for claims from several pain management clinics in Missouri.

Naushad owns Advanced Pain Centers in Cape Girardeau, Farmington, Kennett, Twin Cities, St. Louis, and Eureka.

The civil settlement also resolved a claim with Naushad's billing company.

The U.S. alleges Naushad, his wife, the pain centers, billing company, and billing company owner submitted false claims for an experimental machine saying a patient had direct one-on-one physical therapy when the centers didn't even employ a physical therapist.

In addition to paying $820,000, the health care billing of Dr. Naushad and the pain centers will by closely monitored by the Department of Health and Human Services.

The billing company and owner will be excluded from participating in federal health care programs for five years.
