Home improvement lawsuit targets local contractor

Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD, IL (KFVS) - Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan has filed suit against a Williamson County contractor, alleging he solicited home improvement contracts without the proper licenses and collected more than $47,000 in fees for work that he failed to perform or complete in the proper manner.

Madigan's suit alleges Garret Wilson, who operated Residential Construction Services LLC, accepted down payments but did not perform the work as contracted.

Madigan's lawsuit also alleges Wilson broke the law by "performing work in a shoddy, unprofessional manner, failing to complete the repair work, and refusing to provide refunds to consumers."

Madigan also claims Wilson failed to provide homeowners with written contracts and the "Home Repair: Know Your Consumer Rights" pamphlet, as required under Illinois law.

Wilson has not responded to the allegations.

Madigan is asking the court to prohibit Wilson from doing any more home repair work in Illinois. Madigan also wants restitution for consumers, a civil penalty of $50,000 and additional penalties of $50,000 for each violation found to have been committed with the intent to defraud.
