MARION, IL (KFVS) - Many who attended a Heartland church service Sunday morning received quit a scare.
Near the end of Revered Tim Ozment's sermon at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Marion, someone smelled smoke.
"I had about five minutes left," Ozment said. "I was getting ready to wrap up and some people came in the back. Some folks in the back started getting up. I thought it was a cell phone ringing, but the reaction wasn't normal for a cell phone."
Ozment says folks quickly left the building, as the Marion Fire Department arrived. He adds firefighters used a thermal camera, which indicated the furnace was hotter than normal. Ozment says they believe the problem is in the heating system.
The six o'clock evening service was be held as planned.
