Williamson County, IL Sheriff resigns

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Williamson County Sheriff Tom Cundiff steps down Wednesday morning.

Cundiff submitted his letter of resigned in front of county commissioners and his staff.

Chief Deputy Les Higgins will fill the roll of sheriff until the Williamson County Board of Commissioners appoints an interim sheriff.  The board has 60 days.

Cundiff has been sheriff in Williamson County for the past 11 years.

Before that he was police chief in Herrin.

Cundiff's last day on the job will be Christmas Day at noon.

Cundiff cites health and personal reasons for resigning.
