CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - As the country sees some positive growth in manufacturing and construction, local contractors are getting their business from existing businesses.
"I'm doing mostly commercial work right now," said Jarrett Milam, owner of Milam Masonry in Benton, Missouri.
Milam has a six-man team laying the brick for the new Burger King on Broadway in Cape Girardeau.
"Even though the economy is bad, it's a good time to make your business grow," Milam adds.
His increased commercial work has led to a 40 percent increase in his business.
The new Burger King also brings new business to Edgewater Glass, adding to the list of commercial projects for owner Ann Brookman.
"We have the new John Deere on South Kingshighway that's great, Amerimart North Kingshighway, Plaza Tire is starting another one on North Kingshighway," Brookman said.
She says we don't see the same trends here as are reported nationally, but a good economic report brings a boost of confidence.
"And when confidence is there," Brookman said, " we see the public, our customers, buying more. And that gives us more confidence to build and grow."
