GRANDIN, MO (KFVS) - The search is on for a Grandin man accused of physically assaulting his wife in front of his two young children, possession of drugs and fleeing from authorities, said Carter County Sheriff Tommy Adams.

Adams identified the suspect as Donald Eugene Forsythe, Jr., who also goes by the nickname "Red."

According to Adams, he and several sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic violence call at Forsythe's home around 10:30 a.m. Sunday.  Forsythe jumped out of his truck, ran down the street and into a wooded area when officers arrived, Adams said.

Deputies searched for several hours but Forsythe was not found.

Adams said an investigation of Forsythe's truck uncovered a small amount of what appeared to be marijuana and a clear crystal substance that tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.  After searching Forsythe's property, deputies reported finding items in a 55 gallon drum that had been half-burnt, most of which showed traces of methamphetamine.

Forsythe faces charges of endangering the welfare of children, domestic assault, fleeing arrest to avoid prosecution and possession of a controlled substance.

Adams said Forsythe has a history of violence and drug abuse and is considered dangerous.  Anyone with information about Forsythe should contact the Carter County Sheriff's Dept. at (573) 323-4510.
