MARION, IL (KFVS) - Cape Air has been confirmed as the air carrier for the Williamson County Regional Airport, according to the Department Transportation.
DOT will authorize subsidy levels for 36 roundtrip flights per week from Marion to St. Louis. The contract for DOT says the Williamson County Airport Authority unaimously selected Cape Air's proposal because the airport authority believes the "increased frequency of flights, lower fares, number of dedicated aircraft, and commmitments of staff and advertising dollars to promote the service will produce exceptional results."
Bruce Loy with the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport says Cape Air will also provide four daily roundtrip flights from Cape to St. Louis. DOT will authorize subsidy levels for 24 roundtrips per week. The contract from DOT says the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport Advisory Board and the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport Administartion believes Cape Air would be the "...best alternative to re-establish quality air service for the City of Cape Girardeau."
That service will begin in Cape Girardeau on Novermber 8th. Up to nine passengers can fly in the twin engine Cessna 402 aircraft that Cape Air will use for the flights.
Cape Air provided more service than the department requested. Great Lakes Aviation had provided service in Marion and Cape Girardeau.
