Workers locked in freezer during robbery

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - Police recovered the stolen vehicle after an armed robbery at Applebee's in Sikeston Monday.

A passerby discovered the stolen vehicle abandoned on Lynn Street in the Mini-Farms Subdivision near Sikeston around noon Monday, according to Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

Two workers at the Sikeston Applebee's say they were locked in the walk-in freezer during a robbery Monday morning.

According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety the workers arrived to open the restaurant shortly after 6 Monday morning. The answered the door buzzer shortly after arriving to work and were greeted by a man holding a handgun.

The workers tell investigators the man then locked them in the freezer. Investigators say the man then stole some cash from the restaurant and then stole one of the worker's cars.

The vehicle was described as:
2002 Pontiac Sunfire
Dark blue color
Four door vehicle
Missouri License of:  7AW-40L
With a spoiler or fin on the back

The robbery suspect is described a a black man, 5'7" and last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt. The workers also told police his handgun had a silver tip.
