Watch for my ViewPoint segments on KFVS12 normally scheduled Tuesday & Thursday mornings following the Breakfast Show, and Wednesday & Sunday nights following Heartland News At Ten.
I've been at KFVS12 long enough to know that Heartland viewers love their weather forecasts. A major survey conducted by scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research recently found out that most of us check weather forecasts at least three times a day. Here's the number that knocked me out: Americans, using various media, obtain an estimated 300 billion forecasts each year.
In a press release last week I was not surprised to find out over the air television stations are the number one source for finding out about the weather:
"The most common source for forecast information is local television stations with individuals obtaining forecasts 33.7 times per month on average. Cable television and radio are the next most popular sources. Web pages and newspapers were less common sources overall, but both are a daily or more frequent source of forecasts for 27 percent of respondents."
I am aware of the complaints about weather interruptions but remember, we cover nearly 50 counties in portions of four states.
OK, here is the commercial: KFVS12 invests millions of dollars to keep the Heartland safe and informed about weather. Add up the experience of Bob Reeves, Brian Alworth, John Dissauer, and Laura Wibbenmeyer and you can see why we continue to be the number one source of weather information the Heartland. The Nielsen ratings back that up and we thank you for your support.
