Stolen gun case in IL leads detectives to KY woman

Stolen gun case crosses state lines

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) - A Paducah, Kentucky woman is in custody after detectives connected her with a stolen gun.

According to McCracken County Sheriff’s Detectives, in June of 2018, they found a pistol that had been stolen in Massac County, Illinois in 2017 during an unrelated firearms investigation.

The pistol was found in McCracken County at an area business. Over the next several months, detectives said they investigated the case and eventually spoke to Rebecca Rushing, 51 of Paducah.

Rushing admitted to detectives that she obtained and possessed the handgun. A warrant was obtained for Rushing for receiving stolen property-firearm and theft by deception under $500.

Rushing was arrested by Paducah police officers on April 4 on a warrant.

Detectives said the handgun in this case was stolen in Massac County Illinois from an unlocked vehicle.

Residents are reminded not to store valuable items such as handguns in their vehicle, and to not leave firearms in unlocked vehicles overnight.
