Police: Suspect arrested after two chases through Metropolis, IL

METROPOLIS, IL (KFVS) - An attempted traffic stop in Metropolis, Illinois ends with an arrest after two different chases through the city.

According to Metropolis Police, officers attempted to make a traffic stop on U.S. 45 and Mary’s Ln. on Tuesday, April 9.

Officers report the driver of the vehicle accelerated once the lights were activated on the squad car and took off from the intersection.

The chase with the suspect vehicle continued into town on U.S. 45 to Yasoda and then onto Sixth St. to Cherry St.

Police say the chase continued to an alley between Fourth and Fifth Streets where the vehicle got stuck.

The suspect reportedly got out the vehicle and ran from the scene.

Officers followed the suspect on foot for a couple of blocks.

Steven J. Youman, 24 of Metropolis, was taken into custody and booked into the Massac County Detention Center.

Youman was charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding, driving while license revoked, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
