Police: Man considered armed/dangerous wanted in Mt. Vernon shooting

MOUNT VERNON, IL (KFVS) - Mt. Vernon Police are searching for a man they consider armed in dangerous in connection with a shooting on Saturday, April 13.

A Jefferson County warrant of arrest was issued for Smith “Willis” Moore III, 45 of Mt. Vernon in connection with the reported shooting.

According to Mt. Vernon Police the warrant on Moore is for aggravated battery with a firearm, armed habitual offender and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Mt. Vernon Police said Moore should be considered armed and dangerous and he should not be approached.

At approximately 3:14 a.m. on Saturday, police responded to a woman who had been shot on on the 400 block of S. 17th St.

The woman was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Additional officers and detectives were called in to assist in the investigation.

Members of the Mt Vernon Fire Department and Litton’s Ambulance also responded to the incident.
