ISP trooper injured and suspect dead after chase on I-55

MACOUPIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - An Illinois State trooper was injured and a man is dead after an officer-involved in a shooting.

According to ISP, on Saturday, March 16 at 3:45 p.m., ISP learned of a suspect taking part in an armed carjacking near Sam’s Club in Glenn Carbon, Illinois. The suspect left in the stolen vehicle.

A trooper found the vehicle near Staunton, Ill. and a chase ensues. The suspect’s vehicle came to a rest in the median and the suspect ran on foot.

The suspect brandished a handgun and fired shots at the troop, hitting him. The trooper returned fire, hitting the suspect.

The trooper was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect died from their injuries.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
