SEMO football schedule released for 2019 season

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The 2019 schedule for the Southeast Missouri State University Football team was released Monday, Feb. 25.

In kicking off the 115th season, SEMO will take on rival Southern Illinois University Carbondale in the “War for the Wheel” on Aug. 29. The game will be at Houck Field in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

According to SEMO, the Redhawks lead the series, that goes back to 1909, with 41 wins.

Last year in Carbondale, the Redhawks beat the Salukis 48 to 44 in a nail-biter. The Redhawks scored a game-winning touchdown with 25 seconds left in the match-up.

SEMO Football will have a 12-game schedule in 2019 with six of the match-ups on their home turf at Houck Field.

In one of their away games SEMO will take on the University of Missouri Tigers at Columbia.

  • Oct. 19  SEMO vs. Jacksonville State at Jacksonville, Alabama (Ohio Valley Conference game) 
  • Oct. 26  UT Martin vs. SEMO at Cape Girardeau (Homecoming and Ohio Valley Conference game)
  • Nov. 2  SEMO vs. Tennessee State University at Nashville, Tenn. (Ohio Valley Conference game)

The 2018 Redhawks football season was historic for the program. The teams over record was 9 wins and 4 losses with a second-place OVC finish and a NCAA FCS Playoff appearance.

In the 2019 season the Redhawks will have 15 starters returning to the team, including 2018 OVC Defensive Player of the Year and Buck Buchanan National Defensive Player of the Year Zach Hall.

Tom Matukewicz will also return as head coach of the Redhawks.
