JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -Farmers insurance of Jackson owner Sara Gerau said, “Your home is one of the most valuable assets that you own, so you want to make sure that it’s covered in the event of an emergency.”
She said the key to eliminating headaches after a storm is to check your coverage before it happens. Gerau said it’s important to check for problem tree limbs and clear any drains. She said some damage can look like neglect when you file your claim and could be rejected. Gerau said the key to getting covered is something most of us carry with us every day which your phone is.
“I don't even know what I have in my home or in my apartment so we all have our cell phones now start doing a home inventory with your phone make a video go room by room and videotape so that in the likelihood that something happens you can go access that and say oh I forgot I had this” she said.
Gerau recommends talking to your agent once a year to save you stress if a storm damages your home, and if you’re a renter, she thinks renter’s insurance is a good idea too. she said if you have to file a claim call your agent first because they can help you with the process
