Good Valentine’s Day Heartland
Mild temperatures in the 40s this morning with mostly cloudy skies. Clouds will be sticking around through the day today, but we could see some peaks of sunshine. Strong southerly winds will be present with gusts between 30-40mph. A cold front will move through later this afternoon into the early evening. We may see some light rain ahead of it during this time. Cooler and drier air will sink south over the Heartland allowing temperatures to drop into the upper 20s and low 30s by Friday morning.
All eyes are on Friday for our next winter weather system. The morning will be cloudy, but the afternoon is what will need to be monitored closely. During the early afternoon, snow will be moving into our northern counties-accumulations as of now could 1-3”. Sleet and freezing rain will be over central and southern portions of the Heartland, and this will be a concern with mild to moderate ice accumulations over some areas. This will cause hazardous travel conditions and isolated power outages especially Friday night through Saturday morning. During the day on Saturday, temperatures will warm above freezing so any ice or snow that does accumulate will start to melt off.
