WASHINGTON (KFVS) - Two Heartland lawmakers are joining their colleagues in supporting paid leave for new parents on a national level.

Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth of Illinois announced their support for the plan to re-introduce the Family Medical Insurance Leave Act.

The legislation would allow parents to get 12 weeks of paid time off to care for a newborn or adopted child.

The proposal would also cover those who need time off to take care of a seriously ill family member or recover from their own serious health condition.
