Good Samaritans rescue driver

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Deputies say two Good Samaritans rescued a driver from floodwaters on IL-13 on Monday, February 11.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, around 11:08 a.m., deputies responded to IL-13 just east of Airport Road for a crash.

They say a 2012 Hyundai passenger car was going west on IL-13 and went off the right side of the road. The vehicle went down an embankment and hit a body of floodwater.

Deputies say the vehicle was partially submerged in the floodwater.

According to the sheriff’s office, two Good Samaritans ran into the floodwater and pulled the unresponsive driver from the vehicle. Both men carried the driver to safety and covered him up to keep him warm until emergency services arrived.

Jackson County Ambulance Service responded and transported the man to an area hospital.

The crash is still under investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. They were assisted on scene by the Murphysboro Police Department.
