Convicted Michigan child molester arrested in Jonesboro

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A man being sought by federal authorities in the Detroit area for alleged child molestation has been arrested in Jonesboro, according to a Detroit television station.

WXYZ reported that Michael Flaker was arrested after a tip by the United States Marshals Service East Arkansas Fugitive Task Force as well as the Jonesboro Police Department.

According to the report, Flaker had been sought since Jan. 24 when he cut his tether and fled Macomb County, Michigan.

Jonesboro Police Department Public Information Specialist Sally Smith said local marshals received a call Feb. 9 from their counterparts in Detroit about seeking to capture Flaker. JPD officers arrested him around 6:15 p.m. Saturday on the felony warrant out of Michigan.

“Based on information uncovered during the course of the investigation, Michael Flaker was sentenced to 25 years for alleged child molestation,” Smith said. “While in custody, he cut his ankle monitor and fled. He was located and arrested at the Fairview Inn and Suites on Apache Drive in Jonesboro.”

Smith said Flaker was taken into custody without incident.

He was wanted for eight counts of criminal sexual conduct in the multiple state investigation, WXYZ reported.

Flaker was being held in the Craighead County Detention Center without bond, awaiting extradition in the case.
